Conference Theme: Stress in Motion: From Signals to Society
Integrating Biological Processes, Sensors, and Living Systems
The 2026 conference theme underscores the unique position of the International Society of Psychoneuroendocrinology at the intersection of biological, psychological, and social sciences. Stress in Motion: From Signals to Society reflects ISPNE’s longstanding commitment to integrative, multilevel approaches – embracing experimental, clinical, animal, and applied research – while highlighting the growing importance of technological innovation and real-world relevance. By bridging biological processes, digital signals, and living systems, the theme emphasizes the role of psychoneuroendocrinology in advancing foundational science, fostering translation across domains, and informing health, mental health, and societal challenges in an interconnected world.
The 2026 ISPNE meeting highlights stress as a dynamic, multilevel process that connects biological foundations with modern technological approaches and the complexity of living systems. Research from molecules to behavior — spanning experimental, clinical, animal, and social domains — is invited to explore how stress is measured, understood, and modulated in an interconnected world.
We explicitly welcome submissions addressing all topics that fall within the core mission of the International Society of Psychoneuroendocrinology and its affiliated journals Psychoneuroendocrinology and Comprehensive Psychoneuroendocrinology.
This includes multidisciplinary research spanning endocrinology, neuroscience, immunology, psychology, psychiatry, and related fields:
- Work that integrates biological, psychological, and social levels of analysis
- Studies addressing stress, adaptation, and psychobiological processes across experimental, clinical, animal, and applied domains
- Methodologically diverse approaches—from basic and translational research to systems-oriented and real-world studies—are equally encouraged, as well as contributions that advance understanding of health, mental health, disease, intervention, and societal relevance.

VENUE: Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nürnberg
LOCATION: Erlangen, Germany
WHEN: September 2 to 5, 2026
We are delighted to announce that the 56th Annual Meeting of the International Society of Psychoneuroendocrinology (ISPNE) will take place in Erlangen, Bavaria, Germany at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg between September 2 and 5, 2026. The main theme is: Stress in Motion: From Signals to Society - Integrating Biological Processes, Sensors, and Living Systems.
Erlangen is located in northern Bavaria, approximately one hour north of Munich, and forms part of the Nürnberg metropolitan region. The area combines a strong academic tradition with access to the cultural and historical landscape of Franconia, including the medieval old town of Nuremberg, the UNESCO World Heritage city of Bamberg, and the nearby natural landscapes of the Franconian Switzerland, known for its limestone hills, forests, and traditional villages. Erlangen is easily accessible via Nuremberg Airport (NUE), with connections through major European hubs such as Frankfurt (FRA), Munich (MUC), Paris (CDG), Amsterdam (AMS), and Istanbul (IST), and by Germany’s high-speed rail network, with travel times of approximately 20 minutes from Nuremberg, one hour from Munich, and two hours from Frankfurt.
